Several items concern Ludwig's attempts to assist in the emigration difficulties of Annemarie Meier-Graefe ("Busch"), a mutual friend, who was trying to enter Spain from France in 1940, with the goal of emigrating to the U.S. Several items to Werfel concern Ludwig's publishing negotiations with Viking Press. In 1 letter to Alma dating from after Ludwig's return to Switzerland following the war, he reflects on Werfel's death. 1 item is from an unidentified correspondent who responds to Alma Mahler about Ludwig's book on Napoleon. Also included are 8 newspaper clippings: 7 articles by Ludwig about Germany, part of a series written for the Los Angeles Times just after the war; and 1 review of a book by Ludwig.

Emil Ludwig was a friend of Alma Mahler and Franz Werfel; he had contact with them in France at the beginning of their exile, and he likewise emigrated to the U.S. in 1940 and settled in California, where they continued their friendship with him. Ludwig had become a Swiss citizen in 1932, and he returned to live there after the war. Elga Ludwig was Emil's wife.
